I recently closed a used book store and fold books from the huge inventory I have.
The primary consideration for which book I will use for a project is that is has enough pages to fold the desired word or design. I only use books that have no monetary value such as Reader's Digest Condensed books, books that are missing the dust jacket, outdated nonfiction books, or older bestsellers that I have many copies of.
The folded books will never close again. To ship them, I wrap them in their open state in bubble wrap, and fill the box with recycled packing peanuts.
