RememberingMaggie's Shop Announcement

Maggie's Hat is an attractive and warm knitted hat with a unique pattern. The hat is dedicated to Maggie Wardle who was a 19-year-old Kalamazoo College sophomore from Plainwell, Michigan, attending Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Her life ended in a relationship violence incident on that campus on October 18, 1999. Since that time her family has devoted her memory to raising awareness of relationship violence prevention. Many of Maggie's friends, as well as her family, have taken up this cause.

The design of the hat tells the story of things that were important to Maggie. The hat begins in Trinity Stitch, which represents the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Faith in God and the assurance of His love is the base of this hat just as it was the foundation of Maggie’s life. Over the brim, a row of people hold hands. Wearing this hat, you can show the world that we stand together against the terrible crime of relationship violence. Together we are strong, and together we can change the world. Overhead, birds and butterflies soar freely through the sky, lifting our eyes and hearts upwards, helping us to remember to see the bounty and joy that is all around us. The button on the closure tab symbolizes the love that holds us all together. Each hat has a small pocket behind the button to hold a key or change.

Proceeds from the sale of Maggie's Hats will go to the Remembering Maggie Fund (http://www.rememberingmaggie.com/Remembering-Maggie-Fund.html) of the Kalamazoo Community Foundation (www.kalfound.org) As that fund grows, grants will be given to organizations and programs that promote awareness of the issues of relationship violence prevention. That is the commitment of Maggie’s family and friends in her honor.

Each hat has an attached tag with information and resources on the prevention of relationship violence.
