It's always Christmas in the Woodshop

RonH's Shop Announcement

The banner is a present view down the road from our mini herb farm towards Lake Huron. My wife and I moved here when the last of the kids left the nest. We grow plants, raise vegetables, and pursue our present craft Muses.

I am constantly amazed at what I find when I open a hunk of wood. I like to turn wood on my lathe. It is really quite gratifying. I do get bored with round and have been doing more and more work through carving various shapes and revealing the twist and turns of the grain. This can take up to four times the amount of work, but it does make them unique.

As I carve, the work evolves. Since wood carving is a subtractive art, once removed, the material is gone. Most of my work evolves through design and mistakes. Several pieces have evolved into firewood, LOL.
