TODAY's BITS OF NEWS: Thursday, May 10, 2012 --

I saw a wonderful movie: Monsieur Lazhar -- Canadian movie about a substitute teacher who helps his class come to terms with their former teacher's death -- Comme j'adore la belle langue francaise. It's not for everyone, tho -- those who like a plot that goes from points A to B to C without meandering, may not like this one -- But my sister and I had a great time -- some great kid-actors, and the actor playing the titular character was very compelling.

Getting out from under a pile of orders, which is great, and more orders coming in - which is really great! -- Some new items in the works, but won't be listed for a while, alas. I have some waxed cotton cord to do some vegan/veggie-friendly items with soon --

I'm getting a new list of supplies ready -- any suggestions for materials you're after? Stones in particular?

FUN NEW YEAR's ACTIVITIES:

Here it is already 2012, and I'm going to change the shop name! Not sure what it will be, but I'm working on a bunch that I won't reveal at the moment, it will have to be a surprise! Once I figure it out, and can buy the domain, I'll change the shop. Then the email, and the lot.

AND THEN!

I will create a BLOG, as well as a TWITTER account, so I can tweet you when I have new items. I'll never tweet you unless you ask to be tweeted. A little farther along I have to think about a newsletter, but that's a little off in the distance . . . and a little later: FB!

A NOTE ON HANDMADE:

All my items are hand assembled by me with extreme care and careful attention to quality and view to longevity. I do not, however, make the buttons, spin the thread, or create the leather cord. I purchase the beads from various suppliers, and other manufacturers. I pass along information about these items to my buyers as carefully and as thoroughly as possible in the form of my descriptions where I talk about what the gemstones are, and what kind of finish the leather has.

Freshwater Pearls and Gemstones are are some of my favorite materials for my designs which come straight from my workbench to you. If you have a particular color or gem in mind, let me personalize it to your specifications. Let me make you that one of a kind piece that you've been dreaming of.

THE CARE AND TREATMENT OF PEARLS: Pearls are very low on the 'hardness' scale on which diamonds are a 10 (hardest). When you dress for the evening, your pearls should go on LAST. When you undress after your night out, the pearls should be put away FIRST.

Many of the pearls I use have a dye applied to them. While natural perspiration should not affect your pearls, you should absolutely not wear them swimming or in the shower or bath. Every once in a while you should rinse your pearls, and set them to dry on a paper towel to keep them clean and hydrated. Remember, pearls are created by an organic process and are an organic material and can dry out.

This type of bracelet, whether made by me or someone else is absolutely inappropriate for babies and young children! There are many tiny parts that could easily choke a child. Even if items, like mine, are well made, something unpredictable and unsafe could happen by accident, which could cause the beads to come loose, and then there would be a choking hazard. BEFORE PURCHASING any item for children, always ask the seller if their items have been officially tested for certain age groups!!! Anyone making and selling such items for young children should investigate the laws governing such sales for the small seller -- that means Etsy sellers.

None of my items is intended for purchase or use by children under the age of 15.
