Rusted Rhubarb

RustedRhubarb's Shop Announcement

Welcome to Rusted Rhubarb.

I am a self taught artist, but have learned from some wonderful teachers in various ways. I learned at a young age how to macrame from my mother. Later I learned how to sew on the sewing machine by both of my grandmothers. As a teenager I taught myself counted cross stitch. In both middle school and high school, I took various art courses. Never quite sure what I wanted to create.. all I knew was that I enjoyed the creative process. As life evolved, I found myself a mother of two young children. Sewing and creating for them became my focus. As they aged, I decided to start being more creative in my sewing and see what I could create with the beginnings of a sweet little sewing muse at my side.

After taking a Surface Design class at the Southwest School of Art and Crafts in San Antonio, Texas, I knew that creating my own fabric was my place to be. Using dyes, paints, foil, and both machine and hand sewing, I was hooked.. I loved creating my own "look" and piece that no one else in the world would ever have.

In my search for fabric to dye and paint, I re-discovered vintage fabric. I often use recycled and vintage 100% natural fabrics in my pieces. It's not unusal for me to buy a dress at a thrift store and promptly rip it up and incorporate the fabric into a new piece.

In my shop you will find various fabric creations that I have made... along with what my muse wants to see.
