S.IN.jewelry started as "Sunshine INdustries". I was given the nickname "Sunshine" way back in high school while working at a sports shop. The name stuck, so I used it in my original company name. It still refers to my umbrella art company including my hobby photography, acrylic painting, jewelry and whatever other venture I find myself involved with in the future. (Furniture up cycling?)
Back to S.IN.jewelry.
It's all Sharon's fault. In 2006, I saw her new beaded watch and fell in love with it. Off to a bead store I went, thinking, "I'm an art teacher - I can make that!". Well, a few months, about $1,000 in beads and an antique desk later, Handsome Hubby began to insist that I start selling, because he's a banker and "no one woman needs that much jewelry!". He was right. And I was not about to stop anytime soon. Sunshine INdustries was born.
Since then, I've taken a few courses in metal smithing and metal clay. Metal clay has changed my jewelry the most. Having been a clay sculpture major in university, this medium is natural to me! After it became clear that being a jewelry artisan was going to be more than a hobby, I listened to the PR moguls who all say you should have WHAT YOU DO in your name. I changed "Sunshine INdustries" into S.IN.jewelry. S.IN. is just the shortened form of Sunshine INdustries that I often used when I wrote lists. (Ex: "Buy headpins for S.IN."). It's also an inside joke because buying gemstones and metals has become my sin... (It used to be shoes!) It also speaks to that guilty pleasure a woman feels when buying jewelry (or shoes) for ones' self.
S.IN.jewelry is my main passion today.
