Welcome to ShellHawk's Creations, Hallowe'en Ceramics and Other Needful Things. My store houses both lowbrow and fine art, with functional and non-functional pottery thrown in for good measure.

Hallowe'en is always in the air here, so if you feel spiderwebs on your face or a skeletal hand caressing your ankle, don't worry!

All of ShellHawk's Creations are handmade in Folsom, California, one at a time, the old-fashioned way!

All items listed in the shop are shipped within two to three days, USPS Priority Mail within the U.S. International orders may take a little longer, and I'll likely ask the buyer how quickly an item is needed so I can inform them of any special shipping charges. I will always combine shipping whenever possible, and will send you the total amount due once weight and size of package has been calculated.

Each pot goes through at least two separate firings after being thrown and its drying time is done. Different glazing and firing techniques will sometimes create variations in colors, so please be aware of this when you order.

Please be sure to check out the Raku Ceramics section of the shop. Raku is an ancient Japanese glazing and firing technique that involves pulling out the yellow-hot glazed pot from the 1800 degree kiln and thrusting it into an organic reduction, then removing it and plunging it into cold water. The carbon absorbed by the clay reveals itself both on bare clay and in the crackling of the glaze, and the technique can bring out lustrous coppers and silvers. As there are many variables during the firing and reduction phases, NO TWO PIECES COME OUT THE SAME, but they always come out breathtaking and unique.

Do you have a different face in mind? I can make it for you within the limitations of the clay I use, and there will be an additional fee for custom work. Additional time is required for custom pieces, so please don't contact me the week before Halloween for Halloween delivery.

A quick note about safety: I recommend using battery-operated tealights rather than candles for my pots, not only for safety, but because some of my hanging pot designs use plastic beads which could melt or emit hazardous chemicals when heated. If you choose to use real candles, be aware that the pots will get hot very quickly and may cause burns if touched. I'd suggest putting the pot on a heat-resistant mat of some kind so furniture isn't inadvertently damaged. Never leave a live flame unattended or near flammable materials such as drapery, clothing, pets, or ex-spouses. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES AM I RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN! Seriously. Don't be an idiot.
