StephGdotOrg's Shop Announcement

NEW HOLIDAY PRICES:
I've dropped the prices on most of my paintings down from $125 to $75 and introduced a few newer works at $65! I'm also offering free shipping on all orders!

I work with lots of different materials. Encaustic is one of my favorites. It's an incredibly flexible and beautiful medium. I really got into it a few years back when I set (and met) a studio challenge for myself of finishing 50 mini encaustic paintings during the month of February. Winter has a way of beating down my enthusiasm for life, and it was a particularly bad year. I needed something to shake off my overwhelming urge to hibernate. The encaustic goal was the perfect thing! It helped me force myself out of bed and into the studio. Win! Since then, I've continued doing little encaustic paintings alongside my other work. If you'd like to see more of my work, go to my artist website at http://stephg.org/
To keep up with what I'm doing in and out of the studio and for all manner of art and art-related stuff visit the group blog I co-author with five of my artist pals at http://darteboard.com

Enkaustikos is Greek for "burning in". Encaustic is an ancient form of painting that originated with the Greeks. They used hot beeswax to seal their ships. After a while, they added pigment and made paintings on the vessels. Eventually, it developed into a fine art. The term encaustic has come to refer to any sort of painting that incorporates hot wax. I make my own mix of purified beeswax, damar crystals and pigment.

I have another etsy shop where I list small, less involved sketches and paintings at low, low prices.
