Frequently asked questions
Is the item I receive the one that is pictured?
In almost all cases, yes. I don't list anything that I haven't already made, so the images in the listing are taken directly from the product I will send.
The only place this doesn't apply is with personalizations (since I can't take pictures of personalized products that aren't personalized?) or personalizable listings (since I probably have several blank items that are pretty similar all waiting to be personalized).
I really like *Insert item here* a lot. Is there any way I can get one (or two or 20) just like it?
I will do my best to recreate the item in question. However, as every item is unique and made by hand, there is likely to be some variation from piece to piece. This is especially true with some of the more highly figured woods where two pieces cut from the same tree could potentially be wildly different looking. I am more than happy to recreate a piece for you, but just understand that these are not churned off a manufacturing line or CNC lathe, so they will not be exact copies of one another.
Can I personalize *Insert Item Here*?
The short answer is "Maybe." The long answer is "Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee."
But seriously, some items can be personalized. Generally, things that are flat are able to be personalized at this time. Listings that are capable of personalization are going to have it as an option within the listing, and some items are specifically called out as "Personalized" in the description. If you have a question on a particular item, just message me and I'll be happy to take a look at it.
Does personalization cost extra?
Short answer? Sometimes.
Long answer? Sometimes, generally for larger or more complicated type customization where there is a lot of design time or a very long machine time I may add an additional charge to account for that on the listing directly. The price you see though is the price you pay, I won't come back once an item is engraved and ask for more money.
That being said, most of the items I offer customization/personalization on will fit smaller, more simple items so it isn't really accounted for in the cost of the item.
How do I know what the engraving will look like?
Generally, the engraving is going to look like other laser engraved pieces in the shop, at least as far as how the wood will burn. Before I hit "Start" on your engraving though, I will provide you with the image I'm going to engrave. If it is acceptable to you, then I will set up the machine to run that exact image. That way, you have final say on what is going to be engraved. Once the image is approved for engraving, I'll slot the item into the schedule and get it engraved.
Please note - since you have the final say over the design, please ensure the design is to your liking and correct before giving approval to begin the engrave. I am not responsible for mistakes in the content of the design missed during review.
I really love *Insert heavily protected copyrighted property (not naming companies lets just say rhymes with "Hisney")* and want it engraved on something
Hahahahaha... No.
I'm not going to roll the dice that some lawyer won't show up at my door with a cease and desist for selling custom made, unlicensed products featuring some mouse, duck, princess, "Magic Space Knight", etc., so don't ask. I've seen it happen, so don't try to tell me it doesn't.
I really like *Insert Listing Here* but I notice it doesn't have an engraving option, can I get it customized anyway?
That depends, honestly. Some items are currently not able to be engraved because I don't have a setup to handle them. Yet. Think things that are round (Pens, turned vases, etc.). Other items I probably just haven't added the variation to yet, or the wood doesn't react particularly well to the laser. It doesn't hurt to message me about customizing a listing. The worst thing I can say is "Sorry, the wood I used in that project doesn't respond well to the laser."
If you are interested in a listing that isn't round (like a pen) but isn't overtly customizable, please message me prior to purchasing it and I can let you know if it is customizable and modify the listing for you if it is.
What happens if an engrave fails?
Rarely, there may be an error that occurs during the engrave. In the event this happens, if the error is recoverable (i.e. I lost power and have to restart the engrave at the power outage point), I'll finish the engrave and verify it meets my quality standards. If anything fails my check, I'll contact you with further options. This may be a refund, a new item with a longer delay, or another option.
Are personalized items returnable?
Short answer is no - personalization makes an item non-returnable/non-refundable unless there is some legitimate defect in the piece. I take great care packaging to ensure shipping damage does not occur, but I also understand that sometimes things happen in shipping regardless.
Long answer is maybe - depending on the personalization. Names or personal messages are out here, but if the item is more generic then there may be some leeway in the policy. My suggestion would be to contact me if there are any problems with the piece, and we can find a solution together.
