Just a little smith in a big city.
The Urban Smith: Leathersmith, Metalsmith, Blacksmith, and Lapidary. A throw back to the olden days of working with your hands and mind to create something unique and beautiful. I make metal forged rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces with an upcycle twist. I create leather feathers and incorporate hand forged metal findings. My line uses rough precious stones, that I rock pick and tumble out on the sidewalk in downtown San Francisco.
My line incorporates the rough with the divine and the precious with the base. I try to bridge the gap between classic and contemporary jewelry, with an edge all my own. I love the use of found items with new, local mixed with exotic, and rough with refined. I recently began dabbling in electroforming and gold plating, and it has opened up a whole new world. Brass becomes beautiful once hammered and plated in 24 K gold.
I love using local items in my jewelry, and getting into every aspect of the process. My recent collection features bullet casings from the San Francisco Police Academy, which I cleaned, forged, and gold plated them into works of art. I like to play on the ironic with my jewelry too, I just made a ring that has a large nugget of Brazilian Quartz (healing and calming stone) set in a handmade tension setting. I turn pennies into dollars and bullets into beauty.
Watch for the new stuff using dinosaur bones, shark teeth fossils, and meteorites.....ummm awesome!
