Understory Pottery is here! (formerly Fire in the Hand Pottery) The new name reflects the focus and inspiration for my work; nature, ecology, the stories and legends inspired by nature, and the ways nature speaks to our personal stories. The understory is the forest under the canopy, where the moisture and richness of the soil promotes a great variety of plants and provides habitats for birds and other animals. It is a fascinating and complex world and a great metaphor for my work.
Each listing is for a piece that is one of a kind and ready to ship. Please feel free to contact me for custom orders. My work is evolving (just like the natural world that inspires me) and new patterns are emerging. The patterns which connect us to the world, the universe we live in continue to provide inspiration and moments of awe. A card with the symbolism of the piece is included with each piece. It describes the influence, symbolism, mythology, or animal behavior that was the inspiration for the work. This is particularly nice for gift giving, so that your recipient know why you chose that piece just for them!
All my work is high fired stoneware or porcelain and is oven, microwave and food safe. Items that are suitable for dishwashing (or *not* suitable for dishwashing) are indicated in the listings.
