Necessities for the Modern Family
The name VillaPernilla came from a joke when I was working on a feature film called Elisabeth. We where a tight knitted group working together 10 hours a day making costumes.
I had just bought a house in Sweden and was planning to move back to Sweden after 15 years of living in London.
We joked about calling the house VillaPernilla and then I forgot about it until a few years later.
I was on maternity leave from my job as a costume maker and having become a new mum I had lots of ideas for stuff to make and I also realized that I have been sewing professionally for nearly 20 years. Then at my local library I read about Etsy and just thought it was a fantastic scen for selling handmade stuff.
I remembered the VillaPernilla joke and thought it was a good name to represent my shop.
Sweden has got a very fine tradition of weavers, handcraft called slöjd and all kids still have both textile and woodwork as subjects in school. I would like my shop to convey the feeling of where swedish tradition meets modern living.
