What does "Acqua delle Donne" mean? Women Water!

First of all because it is a social cooperative of women only located in the heart of the old city center of Crotone, in Calabria, southern Italy on the Ionian Sea, one of the most flourishing cities of Magna Graecia (where Pythagoras founded his school).
Second, in ancient times, water didn't pour out of house tap. So women drew water from public fountains, keeping it in "GUMMULE", typical southern Italian clay jug.
According to a popular belief, the first sip was reserved for men ,back home from fields at night, to conserve water fresh.
Through our work and our shop we want to impose that Water belongs to Women, and we can preserve its natural freshness, for ever.

We produce terracotta clay creations: bottons, beads, keychain, home accessories, tiles, plates, door-plates, street number, ventilation grilles, all handmade.
We also create, using natural fibres, hand-weaving items, as little wall hangings and shades, with traditional looms recovering Calabrian patterns and colors.
Last but not least, we make raw paper and hand decorated paper too.

Our work preserves traditions mixing together water, land and clay, moulding shapes in danger of being forgotten.
We propose home accessories that make houses beautiful and unique because of hands warmth, respect for old traditions , using just the essential and clean materials, harmless glazes in minimum amounts.
