My company name is "Apatico", but I love the idea of combining the ideas of order and abandon. I first came across this phrase in Michael Pollan's "The Botany of Desire" to describe humanity's need to create order and structure VS nature's wildness and seeming abandon. Finding the perfect combination of order & abandon is something that I constantly strive for.
My hats have been shown at Dances of Vice, Sakuracon, Steamcon and many other fashion shows and events throughout the US.
All hats are professionally sewn by hand with buckram & wire construction. I have a passion for vintage and antique textiles (especially from Japan), so you will sometimes find these incorporated into my work - making many pieces "one of a kind". I also make many of the millinery flowers I use in my work by hand.
