And here is a little bit of information on metal clay for those of you who are not familiar with it.
Mitsubishi, a car manufacturing company in Japan, several years ago, created precious metal clay which consists of fine silver powder and an organic binder that burns away in a kiln at 1650 F leaving solid fine silver in a decreased size of 25%. The Japanese, known for their attention to detail truly utilized this new medium to create amazing jewelry, and of course the rest of the interested world caught on.
Since then, Mitsubishi and other companies have developed metal clays that can be fired at lower temperatures, thus the inclusions of lab grown gemstones, dichroic glass, and if you are lucky some random very hard gemstones. And, shrinkage of only about 13%!
The newer clays are harder and are able to be fired at lower temperatures and have shorter firing times which is much better for rings as well as many other standard applications.
And there is now bronze clay and copper clay, and even a pro clay that is a silver alloy which is probably most cost effective to work with, but I wont get into that since I mainly work in Silver.
After all those words, you have an idea why my jewelry can be gnarly in nature, but I like it that way, and it is my style, and I hope you will enjoy it as well.
