Bibliographica is a small artisan bindery based in New Zealand. Primarily a photographer, my love of the darkroom & alternative processes slowly spilled over into the world of hand bookbinding. During the time when digital photography began to take over analogue, the aesthetics of my photographic practice started to emerge through my fascination for book work. I found great satisfaction in the process of making - the tangible object, which couldn't be erased with the press of a button.
I have a passion for creating unique hand bound journals, for artists & creatives. Centered around my collections of vintage, antique & recycled materials, my studio practice is slow & involved, and each piece a true labor of love.
Metaphorically, I like to think of my journals as vessels for your stories. After keeping journals for most of my life, I've found that telling our own story even just to the self, is a healing and transformative practice.
I update the store on a monthly basis usually, at a set date & time which I announce a few days prior here, and social media. Books are sold on a first in first served basis - they cannot be mass produced.
I take on a few custom orders at a time, and there is usually a 3-4 week waiting list, depending. Please message me with your requests, I'd love to create a special journal for you.

5 out of 5 starsThe patchwork pieces on this journal cover are so gorgeous and I love to feel all of the textures. Both covers are stunning collages of the best little bits and I love that no scrap goes unused. This chunky little book is so full of charm and whimsy! Love it!

5 out of 5 starsI love the beautiful blue pages of the Beachcomber series. Each page is so unique and they capture the sand & sea vibes perfectly. Love the soft leather and long fringe trim on this chunky little journal. The cloth and lace wrapping are especially beautiful. A wonderful journal to add to my collection!

5 out of 5 starsI just received Pondering Patches No.6! All the unique little patches of leather, paper, linen, velvet, and lace have been assembled into a miniature work of art! It may be small, but it has so much character! It is truly a joy to hold in my hands and ponder the stories it brings to me as I think about adding a few of my own.

5 out of 5 starsI love this patchwork journal so much because it's absolutely one of a kind and has the most beautiful layers and special materials. The leather and fabric patchwork on the covers reminds me of my favorite antique quilts which are the well-loved scrappy ones with soft timeworn fabrics and embroidery holding all of the precious scraps together. Each scrap of fabric and leather is a representation of a special item or memory and that's just what journals are for and so it couldn't be more perfect! I can see more patchwork journals in my future!

5 out of 5 starsThis miniature book is a work of art. It feels like a rare treasure in my hands. The packaging it came in was also beautiful, and I made sure to open it carefully to preserve the floral paper art, of course. The journal is very special, inspiring creative urges just by being near it. I feel lucky to add it to my collection.

5 out of 5 starsHello. My name is Cherubini and I am an Etsy obsessive. I buy many things on Etsy, but my very favorite things -- the ones I treasure the most -- are from Louise. This little Botanica arrived just in time to be my new Gratitude Journal and my first entry was that I am grateful for Louise's amazing talent.

Owner, Maker, Photographer
What began as a hobby became a necessity. Through book-binding I find I can use my creative energy in a variety of ways, and challenge myself with the materials at hand. I think of my work as incomplete - the recipient does the rest.
