Creating a beautiful world by supporting handmade, upcycling and recreating is very important to me. What better message to give to our kids other than to treat our earth kindly? To mend things when they are broken and to support handmade, ethical purchases? And how better to give that message than to live it ourselves by making, buying, mending and using recycled, handmade and upcycled things?

When I had my first baby I realised how important it was to have her surrounded by as many natural and handmade materials and objects as possible in our plastic world. I soon realised this can get expensive! But I also realised that just because it's natural doesn't mean it's not harmful to the environment. I have always been an avid op-shopper (or thrifter/thrift-shopper for those outside Australia?) and after I watched as my Aunty showed me how to make my sweet pixie babe a pair of pants from an old woollen jumper, I was off. And what a lovely and exciting and creative path she sent me on.

Ever since that first little pair of woollen pants, I have experienced such great joy seeing my girls and their friends wearing and playing with beautiful things: beautiful things that have been carefully cut and pinned and stitched by me or other creatives, beautiful things that have stories, beautiful things that are earthy and true and real, beautiful things that are one of a kind.

My first baby is now a girl and she has two little sisters. Her very first word was 'bird' as we have many around where we live. We often like to listen to their different calls, admire their lovely feathers and watch them in our yard. And as such the name of this little shop was born and has given me an avenue to share my handmade clothing and toys with you.
