Original hand-made relief prints by Katka

Welcome!

All of the works shown here are original limited-edition relief prints. I hand-carve each one from either linoleum or wood to produce a raised “relief” matrix which I ink and print onto quality printmaking paper. All are hand-pulled by me on a blue table-top etching press named Max. They are not digitally reproduced. Each print takes several hours, spread over several weeks, to complete.

The colour prints are done in one of three ways:

1. Reduction: one or two blocks are continuously carved away, or “reduced”, as each of the colours that make up the image is printed. Very little is generally left of the block(s) once the print is complete.

2. Multi-block: each colour is carved and printed from a separate block.

3. Hand-tinted: the image is printed in black ink and then hand-tinted in water colour.

All prints are signed by me, Katka, and include the edition number. Some signatures also include my own personal chop.

Slight variations will occur from print to print and are part of the character of relief printmaking.
