I have always been a bit of a treasure hunter. I am one of 11 children and as kids we always found ways to re-use items. You can imagine that hand me downs were essential to the family budget. I think we were some of the original up-cyclers. A cardboard box was never just a cardboard box. Halloween costumes were always created and never purchased. Tree forts and playhouses were a neighborhood effort and were constructed from what ever castaways we might find in our travels. My mom instilled in me the love of garage saleing (not sure that is a word...but it is now) Whether it is genetic and I have come down from a long line of Irish gypsies (probably not) or it grew out a creative necessity to have fun without spending money we didn't have (more likely), I continue the tradition in my adult life and hope to pass on the "gift" to my kids.
My motto is, reduce...reuse...rejoice. Reduce consumption. Reuse items that others have tired of or no longer need and rejoice in doing something creative for yourself and your world.
