BusPaintings, a watercolor series, began in July, 2008, by accomplished artist, Kathleen McElwaine. On viewing Kathleen’s Note Cards & Greeting Cards you will find selections chosen from a body of work born out of Kathleen’s Austin commute. Capital Metro Bus #983 is Kathleen’s ride that connects the urban centers of Austin with Hill Country’s abiding beauty in Leander, Texas. Each original BusPainting is inspired from everyday life creatively expressed with artistic discipline. One can perceive a distinct perkiness in Kathleen’s vibrant watercolors indelibly inked with vivid imagination. These 5x7 BusPaintings represent Kathleen’s intentional participation benefiting the planet’s Goin’ Green. “Early on when I began taking the bus, I did do some character studies of people riding the # 983 Express. But then I became hesitant, thinking that perhaps I might be imposing on a near stranger’s personal space - - one’s mobile sanctum. As a representational artist I constantly look for character ... What are the distinguishing characteristics of people ... plants and animals... skies or, landscapes?” Some pre-dawn people bake delicious pastries every morning; Kathleen paints fresh.
