From my studio in rural Ohio my paintings are colorful, layered, glimpses of the wit & whims of daily life. See my work in Better Homes and Gardens, May 2010.
Moving out of the urban chaos of Boston to the rural heartland of Ohio, my work has evolved into a less chaotic, more peaceful investigation of the many variations of physical and emotional balance. The landscape here is confident and beautiful, and I see it reflecting in my work. Still, whether it’s a lesson from my mother, a saying from my grandfather, a bit of historical ephemera or funny piece of advice from a complete stranger in a bar I’m always trying to find a way to keep the pearls of wisdom circulating. Ultimately I like to challenge people to look, think, see something they hadn't thought of and come away feeling happily surprised. I hope to make artwork people like living with and looking at over and over.
I encourage your feedback, I’m always interested to see if the audience reads the same message that I do from each piece. We all write our own stories and I’d love to hear yours!
I am constantly rotating my artwork between the web and my galleries, so I do have more artwork available. As always you can visit my site at www.barkhaus.com or contact me.
