The Dropcloth Story

Shop members

  • Rebecca

    Owner, Designer, Maker

I learned how to embroider in a feminist art history class, and have been inspired by the history of American needlework ever since. Dropcloth Samplers are my hand drawn designs that are printed as embroidery patterns, ready to hoop and sew.

  • Kimberly

    Assistant, Cutter

I'm a preschool teacher with a passion for creativity in all its forms. I love to sew and quilt and am so excited to be involved in the Portland maker community.

  • Mary Ann

    Assistant, Shipper

I've been crafting since a young age and these days I divide my time between working in a fabric shop and assisting talented designers in the industry. It's wonderful to have turned my hobbies into a career!

  • Rachel

    Designer

Rachel Walker is a Detroit based textile designer. She also builds websites and provides digital services for artists.

Frequently asked questions

What's Included with the samplers?

Samplers come preprinted on quilting cotton and ready to stitch. Included are basic instructions. You provide your own thread and needles.

Where can I find more embroidery assistance?

I'm so glad you asked! Check out my online workshop on Creativebug. Here's a link:

http://bit.ly/originalsamplerworkshop

Where can I see other examples of the finished samplers?

Instagram! Check out the hashtag #dropclothsamplers for tons of beautiful examples of all our designs, stitched by people like you. I hope you'll add yours to the mix!

How should I back my sampler?

For best results, I recommend backing your sampler fabric with a second piece of non stretchy fabric (cotton or linen) before placing your fabric in the hoop. You'll get the flattest, most even stitches this way.

Do you sell Dropcloth Samplers Wholesale?

Yep!
Email me at dropclothsamplers@gmail.com and I'll get you a line sheet for your brick and mortar shop.

Do you design custom samplers?

No
