On December 21st, while visiting relatives in Texas I found a tiny black chihuahua. She was cold and hungry. But this little stray dog immediately clung to me. I fed her, bathed her... and after a week of trying to find her original owner (no tags or microchip). I took her back to California with me.

She's been with me for a month now and I love her. My kids love her. She's a member of the family.

Sadly, today Jan 27th, the vet called to tell me her routine heartworm test was positive. What I had feared was true. That her original family had thrown her away because of an expensive and deadly illness...

Well, I'm not going to do that. But, heartworm treatment is risky and expensive. So, I'm doing the only thing I can do... putting every penny from every artwork sold towards Lulu's treatment. I need to raise $1500 for the vet care which includes hospitalization.

And please, if you live in a Southern State, make sure your pet is taking a heartworm preventative. Lulu caught this in Texas where it is common. I may not be able to save my little friend's life, but I'm going to try.

* UPDATE! Currently I have raised $400 towards her treatment! She had her first dose of heartworm medication (immiticide) and will have another two doses next week. So far she seems to be tolerating the treatment well. I have her on cage rest, confined to a small crate. She had two weeks of bad coughing, but now seems much better. Thanks! We are on our way! Next appt 3/11.
