From Day Job to Etsy

I have always loved jewelry even as a child. It was my dream to learn how to buy and sell fine jewelry. While still working at my "day job". I learned of a jeweler in town who taught a course in estate jewelry. Signed up for his next class. He was an expert in colored gemstones having lived in Thailand and other countries where stones were cut. He also owned a jewelry store that specialized in estate jewelry. We learned the basics of stone recognition, how to use testing equipment, how to recognize styles of jewelry, how to test pearls, and many other useful skills. I began to buy pieces of estate jewelry and wear them to work. My friends started to buy them off my fingers...so I bought more.
After retirement, I entered into my second career, estate jewelry dealer and LOVE it. I've sold in Antique Store, Antique Shows, Private Showings, and eBay. Now Etsy has come into the picture and it is by far the best venue I've ever had. The customers are the best.
The key to selling estate jewelry is to not just buy what you like but what other people will like. I try to keep the price affordable. I also try to buy only high quality pieces. If I would not wear it, then I don't buy it.
