IMPORTANT : Sterling Silver oxidation WILL wear off eventually (especially on rings) and there is no way of knowing how long it will last. I try my best to "seal" the patina by waxing or clear coating the pieces, but please understand it can not last forever. In order to make it last longer, avoid spraying perfumes, lotions, hair products etc. I can also share easy ways you can oxidized silver jewelry on your own at home.

What is 14k gold fill? How is it different from gold/ gold plating?

In creating 14K gold-filled material, the 14K gold is bonded to the base metal with heat and pressure. The base metal is also gold in color (this is the same for my 14K rose gold fill items). The exterior of the product is solid 14k gold and everything you can see or touch is a solid layer of 14k gold. This is why it will never tarnish, chip or wear off.  The gold layer on gold-filled wire is approximately 100 times thicker than gold-plate and is bonded with heat and pressure. 14K gold-filled material must be at least 5% gold in the weight of the piece.

In creating 14K gold-plated material, a base metal goes through a series of processes and is eventually dipped into a bath of electroplating solution which contains gold. When an electric current is applied, an electrochemical reaction occurs and a thin layer of gold is deposited onto the metal. This layer is much thinner than the coating of gold that covers gold-filled jewelry, which goes through a process of mechanically bonding and heating the gold to the base metal. 14K gold-plated material contains a tiny percentage of gold which, over time, wears off.
