girlwithasword's Shop Announcement

I run a herb shop full-time (prairielandherbs.com), and love to play with fiber in my "spare" time. I've combined my passions - plants and fiber - and started a little business selling naturally dyed silk scarves, hankies, and roving, as well as other naturally-dyed fibers and items. I hope you will enjoy my goods!

I use a wide variety of sustainably-grown, certified organic, and wildcrafted dyestuffs from my own gardens and surrounding lands, as well as some purchased exotic dyestuffs. I also enjoy using rusty "found" objects - when you own an old farm, you are always finding interesting rusty stuff, and they are fabulous for dyeing with! I make my own iron mordant from rusty items (nails and such), and the copper mordant I use is a by-product of cleaning my copper still I use in my herb business (I periodically have to clean my still with vinegar to keep it functioning efficiently; I save the resulting green copper solution and use it both as a dye and a mordant). I also enjoy using old pennies, copper wire, and natural earth clays as dyes. I use a variety of dye techniques, such as compost-dyeing, solar dyeing, and traditional hot-pot dye methods.

I am also a spinner, knitter, and fiber artist, and work closely with local fiber-farmers and processors to bring you an interesting assortment of naturally dyed fiber from humane family farms.
