Welcome to my shop in Alamos, Sonora, Mexico.
I work with dichroic glass and it is, by far, the most exotic medium I have ever worked with. When I'm not working with glass, I am chasing bulls out of my yard, mixing cement in a bucket for Senor, or painting vigas, among many other things.
Our move to Mexico happened in June, 2008, and we are loving every moment.
I am especially loving the fact that we were not detained at the border in 2008, for bringing across four kilns, 3 grinders, drills and cutters and slicers and propane and oxygen regulators, and hundreds of slabs and chunks and slices of glass, all of which I use to make pretty projects.
I work with dichroic glass, a glass created by NASA for the space program. In its raw form, the glass is coated with metal properties which have the capability of both transmitting and reflecting light. Once the glass is heated those elements are burned into the glass and will continue to either reflect light or allow it to shine through, creating multitudes of colors at any given moment when they are hit by light.
I don't use any decals, paints or dyes, or pre cut glass. I cut my glass into the shapes and sizes that interest me and then piece it all back into an appealing design.
Dichroic glass has a certain seductive quality about it, it's a little like Mexico, both warm and cool at the same time. I guarantee you will fall in love the colors of dichroic glass and that my work will give you endless years of pleasure.
The Wildflower Earrings Collection is inspired by the beautiful wildflowers that can be seen throughout North America, in both the US and Mexico.
The Mexican Window Collection is my representation of the color that can be found in the wonderful world of Mexico. Each fused dichroic glass window is named after a street here in Alamos. Mexican Windows are eager to be looked at, looked through and leave a lot to the imagination!
Las Puertas de Santa Fe (or the Doors of Santa Fe) Collection represents beautiful old doors in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Some pendants have two doors, some have one, some are clear and sparkling, some are old and rough while others just beg you to open them up so you can see what is behind.
All of my brilliant pendants are fused, layered dichroic glass and come with either a sterling silver plate or 14K gold plate bail. A 3 or 4 strand ribbon necklace, with a lobster claw and adjustable chain length is included. It is easily removed to allow you to add a favorite gold or sterling chain through the bail. All of my dichroic earrings come with sterling silver ear wires and rubber backs or 14 k gold plate ear wires and rubber backs. Earrings are lightweight, so please wear your earring backs!
