Hi! I’m Haley. I grew up here in Sacramento, and I’ve never met a scrap of fabric I didn’t like. As a kid, I made all sorts of random outfits for my stuffed animals from fabric scraps, sticks, paper, and tape, and one of my favorite possessions was my super-soft velvet pillow.
I guess you could say I haven’t changed much. In high school, I grabbed a handful of my dad’s old neckties, sewed ‘em together, and voilà! I made a purse. People seemed to like it, so I started a small business (no big deal;)...) to raise money for one of my favorite local organizations, Women’s Empowerment. As the community service chair of my sorority in college, I helped raise more money for WE by hosting bracelet making parties. Around this time, I decided to major in graphic design (with a concentration in textile and pattern design -- notice a theme here?). I acquired my grandma’s beloved sewing machine, experimented a bunch, made some cool stuff, and started to gain some serious sewing confidence.
I took a brief hiatus from sewing after graduation while I settled into a new job I love, but now I’m back on it. I’m making all sorts of pillows, bracelets, and bags, all with the wonderful, delicate silks of recycled mens neckties. I’m super excited about the stuff I’m making now, and I hope you like it, too!
