Most people don't realize that most of the “soap” they buy at the supermarket is not in fact soap, but a harsh detergent bar containing petroleum oils, animal fats, and a variety of chemicals. During the detergent bar making process, the natural glycerine is removed, since it can be sold, and you are left with a bar that may lather great, but can leave your skin feeling tight, dry, or even itchy.
Our soap is different – it's actually soap! We only use high quality oils like coconut, palm, and olive, and the best fragrances and essential oils we can find!
Yes, our soap is made with lye. You can't make soap without it! However, during a process called saponification, the lye gobbles up the oils and converts them both into soap. Due to this chemical reaction, there is no remaining lye left in the soap you purchase from us. Each batch is tested to be sure of this!
We don't use any chemicals to give our soap a longer shelf life like the commercial companies do. We expect that you buy our soap intending to use it, not set it aside because it smells good, or is too pretty to use. Please understand that we leave a certain amount of oils unsaponified so you get a bar that will give you the skin nourishing benefits of those oils. This unsaponified oil has not been converted into soap, and can go rancid if left to sit unused for long periods of time – most soap is safe for at least 2-3 years or so. We also stand behind our soap and guarantee it for a full year, so please be sure to use it within that time frame for the freshest experience.
