In the Byzantine era icons were considered precious gifts, because the people believed that they bring luck and health to the home in which they entered. The tradition continued in the countries with orthodox religion and lasts till today due to the strong belief, and, mostly because they are considered as work of art.
The orthodox icons are known for its precision and distinct style, which is pre-defined by certain canons. However I try to add my own touch of creativity when painting them. I like them to be looked at not only as religious objects but also as piece of art suitable for every home decor.
