My first real experience with drawing the outdoors was in a summer oil painting class at SVA taught by Gregory Crane when I was eighteen years old. In that class, we ventured outdoors in various locations around Brooklyn, NY, such as Prospect Park, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Red Hook, and more. Despite the grueling summer heat, I found the experience worthwhile and intriguing. Two years later, I registered for a Drawing on Location class taught by John Ruggeri. In this class, I was instructed in the basics of composition, contouring, gesturing, form, and speed. We traveled to many locations around Manhattan. This class turned out to be my favorite, so much so that I returned for another semester; It sparked my love for urban and outdoor sketching.
Since graduating, I still enjoy going into the city to draw on my down time. I keep my sketchbook with me as a visual diary to record my traveling adventures.
I would love one day to get into silkscreening. My goal is not only to do prints, but other items too. Stay tuned!
I'm also a fantasy illustrator. Check out my work here at my other etsy shop:
