Hello and welcome to Wind-up Dreams & Vinyl Nightmares! John Purlia’s photographs are still-life narratives that playfully take on social themes with the close detail and naive inspection of a child. Vintage record albums form the background context for each of his pieces, with vinyl 45's supporting the stage, and playful figures and other found objects providing the players. Vibrant, candy-like colors bring to life these carefully staged photographs and enhance the child-like quality he strives for. Influenced by the way children play with their toys, often giving them conflicts and dialog, he constructs these still life dioramas with a storyline and theme such as love, longing, mystery, or mischief in mind. Although the images he captures are open to interpretation, they are rich with symbolism and hidden meaning. Combining striking visual impact with complex and compelling stories, he hopes to bring both surprise and delight to his viewers.

All photos are professionally printed on Fuji Crystal Archive paper with a glossy finish for a lifetime of enjoyment.
