J. Robbins Wood Works
Everybody and everything has a story, buried, waiting to unearthed. When I build my furniture out of worn out wood from a long forgotten home, an abandoned barn, or a run down store, I give it a voice to speak for itself: the times, the people, and the memories come alive once
again. This picture is of my grandfather’s store, built many generations ago, before the devastating effects of The Great Depression and before industrialization hit the countryside, snuggling up against the rolling hills of the south. It is where my father and his family grew up making memories, it is where I made memories; it is what I now use to make memories for others. In those days, the country store was the epicenter of the community, a place where a person could stop in, catch up on the latest gossip and unwind from the hard struggles of the day with a cold soda and sweet roll. The store was the heart of priceless good times. From great music, savory peanut boiling, and the occasional game of half rubber, many great stories were formed during this age. My point in this rambling, yet modest, story is that I put a minute piece of that small, old store in each and every piece of furniture I build. The wood gets a new life and you get a new piece of furniture. The furniture you welcome into your home is not just another piece of cold, processed wood, it is a continuation of that old forgotten country store, of that family that grew up there, and now, it shall merge into your story, of which will be passed through the generations. Because of your purchase, you will keep many fading memories from drifting into the accumulation of amnesic recollections; and for you, you are rewarded with a precious heirloom-quality furnishing of much character.
“Recycling our past into your future.”
