Located in the mountains of Virginia, Julia Paul Pottery is influenced by the local landscape, which is filled with fields and forest. From tableware to one-of-a-kind modern decor, each piece is elegant and well designed, but never fussy. The forms and glazing refer to natural features and phenomenon -- including forest, fog, and mountains -- but are always dictated by quality and function. This produces fresh, lasting designs with natural, unique detail.
Making pottery is a slow process where nothing can be rushed. Each piece goes through an extended process of drying, firing, cooling, glazing, and then a second firing. It is an exciting process of transformation!
Three kinds of stoneware have been chosen for their unique composition, beauty, and quality. All glazes are lead free and food safe, and are fired in an electric kiln up to cone 5-6, which is over 2160°F. Did you know the surface of the sun is about 9900°F?
