My shop Koralki on Etsy is very special to me. I have always made jewelry for myself, family and friends always hoping that one day I would be able to devote all my time to it and happily now is the time. We moved to live in France in 2006 and since then I have been making and selling my jewelry at the weekly and Artisanal Markets. Lots of people have asked me if I have a web site and I have always said 'not at the moment', not really knowing how to go about it. I decided in my 60th year that I would do it and a friend told me about Etsy. As soon as I looked at the Etsy site I knew it was for me. I loved the way it was presented. I have been in Display and the visual Arts so presentation is very important to me. I opened my space on 18 May and didn't actually list anything until 30 May as the resizing of photos totally foxed me. Many sleepless nights later I thought.....just do it Anita and don't keep questioning things et voila Koralki was up and running, well toddling really. I work under my own name in France but chose Koralki for my shop as my father is Polish and Koralki is polish for bead, I liked the sound of it.
My jewelry is colorful and handcrafted and I only make one of a kind. For me being handmade is individuality and seeing the mark of the artist on the item (fingerprints on my clay and some time my cats paw print on the canvas). I believe that If you buy an artisanal piece of jewelry you do not want to see anyone else wearing the same thing. I handroll my clay beads and paint and varnish them. My canvas jewelry is also handpainted and handcut by me. I am not a disciplined artist in as much as I never know what I am going to make at any given moment. I start off thinking ops I need necklaces today and usually end up with a bracelet or hat pin.
I have a tiny workspace, just a corner of my little stone house in Brittany and I have to say at times it is not tidy, good job it is behind the stairs!!! I am inspired by everything but especially nature, raw materials and ethnic customs and the history of things.
I hope you will enjoy wearing my jewelry, it will deffinately get you lots of complements.
