Welcome to my home at Magic Threads Dolls! My name is Julie McCullough and I've been a textile artists for over 30 years. I've been a spinner, weaver, dragon lady, dollmaker, maskmaker, pattern designer, writer and teacher. One thing leads logically, or illogically to another. I have yet to run out of ideas! I've been in books, magazines, TV shows. galleries and international doll exhibits.

Here you will find some of the cloth dolls, animals and patterns that I design and produce in my Iowa studio. My dolls are colorful, silly, whimsical and totally nonsensical at times. My pattern line is well known for my clearly written directions and variety of whimsical styles.

I am inspired primarily by fabric, theatre, travel, fantasy and the woods I see from my studio. I work with many types of fabrics to interpret the ideas I see floating around in my head. My favorite place for inspiration is the New York Garment District!!! Most of my dolls are created for adults. Because I use small pieces I don't recommend them for very young children but I do make hanging pieces that work well in children's rooms.
