Gourds and More

McBrideCreations's Shop Announcement

Why Gourds? It is important to me to use sustainable and recycled products as opposed to non-renewable resources. Enter gourds. Gourds grow like pumpkins, then after months of drying they produce a sturdy, hard shell perfect for decoration.

Quoting Wikipedia:
"Gourds were the earliest plant species domesticated by humans and were originally used by man as containers or vessels before clay or stone pottery, and is sometimes referred to as "nature's pottery". The original and evolutional shape of clay pottery is thought to have been modeled on the shape of certain gourd varieties." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gourds

Neat, right? Mostly everything I use is natural, recycled, and eco-friendly. I use different types of gourds in my artwork, all sustainable harvested and American grown.
