I grew up near the ocean and it has captured my heart from the time I was a small girl. There is a small beach near my home where I collect the sea glass that becomes the inspiration for my jewelry.

A note about sea glass--it is not all the same. While sea glass washes up on beaches all over the world, very few pieces are considered to be usable for jewelry, or "jewelry grade." The natural tumbling of each piece of sea glass results in a unique frosted finish that is quite different from machine tumbling. I find lots of sea glass as I wander the beach, but much of it is not usable for my jewelry.

My sea glass jewelry is priced according to several criteria:

1. The clarity and frosted surface of the glass. The more uniform the frosted surface is and the more rounded the edges are makes a piece of sea glass more valuable. Also, finding a piece that does not have color variations or imperfections also increases its value.

2. The size of the piece. A larger piece of sea glass is more valuable because there are so many factors that can break the glass in the ocean and the percentage of sea glass that makes its way to jewelry grade in a large size is quite low.

3. The additional elements that create the individual piece of jewelry. I use a variety of wires and gemstones and price each piece of jewelry accordingly.
