I have many things I love to do in life, but few go back as far as my desire to sit at a sewing machine and create beautiful things. Starting out as young as 8 I had my introduction to sewing by making itsy bitsy clothes and accessories for my barbie dolls. I quickly moved on to clothing for myself (including my Sr Prom dress) and making all sorts of gifts for loved ones. I loved to make just about anything.

Many years suddenly passed when life got in the way with college and work as a computer analyst. Once I married and had children I decided to dust off the old machine again. Ten years were spent creating and selling decorative flags in both a local boutique as well as through Yankee Magazine. It was a lot of fun and to this day I can still drive around and see my flags hanging on houses which thrills me. When I decided I needed a new venture. I changed course and combined my love of both beautiful fabrics with classic style functional accessories for women and Nan Gates Designs was born. Wanting to have personal meaning to my company name I chose to use part of my maiden name as reference to the time my love of sewing began.

My favorite part of creating my pieces is choosing beautiful fabrics. Although I focus on modern looks and designers that give a contemporary flair to the classics, many I use are 'out of print' or 'hard to find' fabrics which make them extra unique. I absolutely love creating new pieces and to this day, I maintain that my classic yet modernized styles and designs will stand the test of time. I take pride in the quality and detail of each item I create for customers and treat each as if it were my own.

So now that my two children are older, my husband and I are empty nesters and my two Cavalier King Charles are my babies and constant companions. I've played competitive USTA league tennis for 20+ years and love playing tennis/golf on Lake Oconee, GA as well as walking the beaches near our our summer place on Cape Cod. If I'm not doing those two things most likely you will find me at my sewing machine creating!
