Thank you for visiting my shop. I work primarily in fiber, glass and metal clay. The common thread to each of these media is heat. Each requires heat to be transformed into something "more" and sometimes, even into pieces of art. For fiber to become wet felt, heat combined with friction is necessary. For individual pieces of glass to fuse together to form a better whole, gradual and gaining heat must be applied until the desired result is achieved. Metal clay is brittle and delicate until it too is fired in a kiln, where an organic binder burns away and fine metal remains.
To me, the need for heat to transform these media into a better, stronger or more beautiful form parallels life and how the heat of our own lives helps to transform us into better, stronger and more beautiful people. Without the heat of struggles, challenges, passion, love, sadness, change and celebrations, how could any of us grow? And without growth, how could any of us really live?
