“It’s not too perfect!” That is a philosophy I live by and the conception behind RBJewels. RBJewels uses vintage and fashion jewelry that have lost their purpose to create a new piece of art. Sometimes this means I have deconstructed a bracelet, necklace or earrings then combined them based on color and balance to create a new piece. I have always loved vintage jewelry, and I seem to love it even more when they are not perfect and have what I call “love worn scars”; meaning you can see the wear from being worn and loved for years by a special someone. When I look at these pieces I want to save them from destruction and give each piece a new life with a new love.
In today’s fashion advertising, young girls and woman are portrayed as being perfect in their airbrushed, photo-shopped way. There are voices now bringing this subject to light and pushing for a change: to recognize that beauty does not equal “perfection”. RBJewels represents this voice with my repurposed creations of art.
My hope and prayer is that any women that wears an RBJewels piece will “Feel Pretty” and can relate to the lack of perfection but the beauty of combining several non perfect pieces together in one piece of art.
Each piece is one-of-a-kind, unique, just like every woman.
