Schone: Naturally Beautiful. Handmade in Brooklyn, NY

rschone's Shop Announcement

Welcome! *Please note* that I am currently accepting orders for August 2012 events and later. Some styles can be made more quickly, depending on various factors, so please still get in touch if your event is sooner!

Schone is based in Park Slope, Brooklyn NY. Please feel free to come visit me in my studio to view samples in person! Email rschone [!at] gmail.com for an appointment.

Schone Bridal gowns are truly a work of art, individually created for each bride to her exact specifications. With a strong focus on quality textiles and precise proportions and fit, my gowns are designed to enhance a woman's natural beauty and elegantly emphasize her sophistication. I design each dress to have several customizable options such as interchanging skirts and bodices, changing length, adding or removing sleeves, and customizing color. I also love making fully custom bridal gowns! I take great joy in working with each bride to create her dream gown, perfectly suited to her figure and occasion.

Beyond caring for the details of the design, it is very important to me that each bride's experience be totally one of joy and enjoyment. This process should be fun! And having a custom gown created for you should feel almost like your best friend is making it for you- each stitch is genuinely stitched with love. I know that getting married is a big (often stressful!) moment in life and your gown should reflect that meaning of the moment beautifully- both physically and spiritually.

Schone is a mother-daughter collaboration- Daughter Rebecca (that's me!) heads things up by designing the dresses, making the patterns, and administering the business, while her mom Colleen carefully tailors each piece. The clothes sold here are hand made in Rebecca's studio in Brooklyn, NY, and also in Colleen's studio in Pennsylvania. If you live in the NY area, come by for a visit! I love to get to know my clients face to face when it's possible :)

The word "schone"(pronounced like the past tense of "shine") means "clean beauty" in Dutch, which is the essence of how I hope each item will look and feel- fresh, carefree, natural, simple, beautiful. We take great joy in creating each piece, and we hope you enjoy them too!

rschone's Shop Policies

Welcome

Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to read through my Policies and Procedures.

All of the custom items sold through my store are cut to order and are hand sewn in New York City or in Pennsylvania. The piece you receive was made especially for you, to your specifications.

If you do live in the NY area, I am more than happy to meet with you in my Brooklyn studio to review styles, fabric options, colors, and measurements in person.

ORDERING FROM THE LINE-

All of my gowns can be made in your choice of Color and fabric finish (satin shine or more matte). Dresses are made either in standard sizes or made to your measurements (see item description). Customizations to existing styles are always possible (for example, adding a sleeve, changing hem lengths, switching a skirt from one style onto the bodice of another, etc). In some cases, additional fees for patternmaking, fabric, and labor may apply, usually starting at $200.

For standard sized garments, please review the size chart carefully to select your size, and always choose the size that fits your largest measurement as it is much easier to take in than to let out. If possible, also send me your actual measurements so I can double check that the size selected works best for you. If you need help with measurements or selecting your size, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Cut-to-order pieces made from existing styles take approximately 10-12 weeks from payment date to ship date, although they can be rushed if necessary. You should also allow 2-3 weeks for local alterations, should they be necessary. Please convo me before placing your order if you need a rush (ie sooner than 12 weeks) and I will let you know in advance if I can meet your deadline. A rush fee of $100-300 will apply, depending on the style.

MUSLINS-
A Muslin of your gown can be made for you, for a fee of $300. A Muslin is a mock up of your gown in a less expensive fabric, minus linings etc, that allows you to try the dress on, to make sure the style suits your body, and to make adjustments to size and/or style before the gown is cut in its fragile and valuable silks. If you are not a local bride, it is advisable that you have a local tailor/alterations person help you to pin and mark your muslin (it will come with printed instructions). Please allow an additional 3-4 weeks to your overall ordering timeframe for this service.

CUSTOM DESIGNS-
Fully custom designed gowns are always possible! When creating a custom gown, I will work with you to design the dress of your dreams, based on inspirations photos (NOT copied from other designers! Sorry that’s just a no no), vintage styles, and your individual desires.

Custom design service includes a Muslin of your dress (see above) and at least 3 sketches- of course I’ll do as many sketches as necessary (within reason) until we find the perfect design.

Custom designed pieces take approximately 16 weeks from payment to ship date.
Prices for custom designed gowns start around $1800.

ALTERATIONS-
I can arrange for alterations to be done for you, however the fees for the alterations are the client’s responsibility. I can also provide you with referrals to several talented local alterations people if you live in the NJ or NY area.

It is my advice that you should allow yourself and additional 2-3 weeks for alterations and check with your local tailor as to what her fees are for hems, etc, in advance so you know what to budget.

Payment

For custom pieces, once all details are agreed upon and finalized, a custom listing will be created for you. Payment in full must be received before I can start creating your item. If you need, I can accept a 50% deposit to start with the balance 50% due at shipping or pick up.

For ready-to-ship pieces, payment in full must be received before item will be shipped (naturally...). If payment is not sent within 48 hours, the item will be relisted.

Thanks for understanding!

Shipping

All items shipping within the Continental US will be shipped via USPS (tracked and insured), unless otherwise specified or requested. You will be notified by email when the shipment goes out.

Items shipping internationally will ship with USPS and additional insurance is included in the shipping amount. You will also receive a tracking number and confirmation when your item(s) have shipped. PLEASE NOTE that additional CUSTOM/DUTY FEES may be applied to your shipment and that you as the buyer will be responsible for these fees.

Please allow up to 5 days for shipping within the USA, up to 10 business days for international shipments. If you require expedited shipment I can accommodate you, but higher shipping rates will apply (I can ship with UPS and FedEx).

Refunds and Exchanges

Unfortunately, I cannot accept returns on cut to order or custom garments as these are made specifically to your order. Each piece is carefully inspected before it ships out, but if by some chance your garment is damaged due to sewing you can return it to be fixed and I will cover shipping expenses. If it is damaged during transit please contact me ASAP to make arrangements.

Please understand that although precise and standardized procedures are followed in order to size each garment, there is still the chance that additional alterations may be needed to be done locally. This is not an acceptable reason for returning a custom item.

PLEASE convo me if you have any questions or concerns. It is my genuine desire to make every client truly happy!

Thanks so much!

To select your size:
1) Measure at the widest point of BUST, narrowest point of WAIST (where your torso bends from side to side), and widest point of HIPS (9” below waist). It is generally best to have someone else take your measurements for best accuracy.
Breathe normally and make sure that the measuring tape is horizontal!
2) Indicate your height AND your measurement from natural waist to floor (in shoes you plan to wear)
3) Please note any special requirements. For example, many of our dresses are great for wearing during pregnancy! If you need your dress to fit for maternity, please indicate how many months along you will be when you plan to wear your dress, and also include your under bust (empire waist) measurement.

DETAILED "HOW TO MEASURE" GUIDE FOR CUSTOM PIECES
Some styles and orders will require more in depth measurements (I will let you know if I need them). In those cases, please follow the below guidelines to acquire your measurements:
***PLEASE NOTE*** T IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU HAVE SOMEONE ELSE MEASURE YOU FOR BEST ACCURACY. It is important that you get measured while wearing the same foundation garments (Spanx anyone?) that you plan to wear with your dress! Control top pantyhose, padded bras, etc, will all affect the fit of the garment :)
A) WAIST- Place your hands on your natural waist- this is the point where if your torso bends when you bend side to side. Note this measurement.
B) BUST- Measure at widest point of bust, and be sure your measuring tape is parallel to the ground (don't let it dip to the back!)
C) UNDER BUST- Essentially your rib cage measurement, right below your bust
D) HIPS- Measure at the widest point, generally about 9" below your WAIST.
E) TORSO LENGTH- Measure from the dip between your collar bone to your WAIST
F) WAIST TO KNEE- Natural waist to the top of your knee cap
G) WAIST TO FLOOR- **WITH THE SHOE HEIGHT YOU PLAN TO WEAR!** (Naturally this is only important with floor length dresses)
H) UPPER ARM- Circumference of your arm, 1" below your armpit
