Segmented Wooden Turnings by Russell G. Brown

segmental's Shop Announcement

UPDATE: As of March 2009 (several months before that, actually), I'm no longer actively selling woodwork. I have a fair amount of backstock, particularly of the smaller things, but I just became so tired of the ever-increasing expense and effort required to market an ever-decreasing quantity of my goods that I gave up in despair. I'm now focusing on something with a slightly less convoluted path from effort to remuneration and which requires less protective apparatus.

I am a woodturner/woodworker who specializes in segmented bowls and vases -- segmented because these items are made by gluing together wooden segments to form rings, and then gluing the rings together to make the blanks from which the finished items are turned. All of my pieces are in the natural colors of the woods, with just a clear, foodsafe finish. Recently, I have started making earrings and pendants through an off-center turning process where I make a sandwich of two pieces of wood, mount it off-center on a special jig, and turn grooves halfway through from each side, making a seethrough latticework.

I'm just getting started on etsy, so it'll be a bit before I have my full spectrum of work displayed here. I have earrings and pendants in a wide variety of colors/species, so if you are interested in a particular combination, let me know what it is, and I can let you know if I have it. Also, I have pictures of many of my bowls and vases on my original website, http://www.swcp.com/~rgbrown.

Additionally, all bowls come with information regarding care of the finish and also background information about the technique.

Thanks,
Russell
