Remember closed terrariums should never be watered every week especially with lichens as this will kill them. Remove the top at least once a week or so for air circulation too if you have lichens in there.

Many people are now selling moss and do not even know a thing about it. My moss is always pesticide free unless you request me to spray a natural pesticide on it if you are going to place on a table etc.

My preserved moss is just that...all preserved and will stay that way for years holding the color. This is not just a dry moss that will fade in a few months...it is processed to hold the color form texture and beauty that you see for years. Remember though that ALL things do fade over time when left in direct sunlight or left for long exposure to outside elements like rain etc.

Terrarium Tips for New Assembly

Using a steak knife is helpful in construction. The pointed tip allows you to push down the moss into the soil along the edge to give the terrarium a clean finished look. Kind of like the sand art in a jar...it pushes the moss down cleanly. This will not damage your moss. The knife is also good to remove items that are in those tall jars that is hard to get your hands in to.

Use a spray bottle on the stream setting to spray against glass and push down those small particles and dirt from the side of the glass down into the soil.

Wrapping your ferns with moss of the sheet style will protect the roots and also give a clean finished look to the terrarium.
Be sure to water the terrarium well when it is all put together for the first time. Then watering or misting only as needed (when no more condensation is being made)for closed terrariums and may need weekly if an open style that is not a preserved one.

Remember that your terrariums are better on the cooler side. High heat humid conditions are not as good as a cooler environment. Do not over water them and taking the lid off for air circulation is also a plus.Placing in front of a window with lots of sun really heats the glass up and can cook your moss & lichens.
De-chlorinated water is best! You can fill a jug with water then let it sit for 24 hours to be sure it has no chlorine left. Distilled water can be use as well .

Remember earthworms are good for your terrariums and kids do like to see them travel in the soil!


MOSS & LICHEN TERRARIUMS:
Charcoal is not necessary when you make terrariums from moss. The main reason for the charcoal is to absorb odors from decaying plant matter. The moss does not decay and regrow like plants do so it is not needed but can be used without harm. All my terrariums contain the organic soil that my moss grows on here which is at the right acidic level for moss and lichens. River stones or gravel is mixed in with the soil as well for drainage purposes.

I have been in business over 13 years now and I supply many with my moss including family operated pet supply stores. A lot of very kind people I have meet on line also buy my moss to make and sell their own terrariums.



Shipping of my terrariums is very important to me. They are packed with biodegradable peanuts,newspaper,shredded paper, and bubble wrap. I take great care to maintain the appearance for when it arrives to you.

I harvest all my moss from my 12 acres here. Everything is organic and I never use pesticides on my moss.
