Andy Warhol said: "I broke something today, and I realized I should break something once a week.. to remind me how fragile life is." One of Carly Simon's classic songs has the lyric: "...there's more room in a broken heart."

I often say that mosaics are a metaphor for life. Things get broken: huge things like promises, hearts, and families-- and little things like glass and china. Our challenge is to pick up the pieces and put them together in a new way -- cutting ourselves as little as possible in the process.
