Diamonds last forever, and so does plastic.

Twice is a small handcraft business specialized in sustainable jewelry. One of Twice main goals is to bring awareness on the problem of plastic waste by both, suggesting alternative ways to reuse plastic, and promoting the use of sustainable materials as a valuable alternative for plastic.

Twice offers hand-sculpted, unique pieces of jewelry. With any of the Twice creations, you will own a minimalist, eco-friendly, green, sustainable accessory that will conciliate your fashion needs and your eco-chic lifestyle. With the purchase of any of Twice’s pieces of jewelry, you will receive a beautifully packaged gift that will last forever, just as plastic does.

ONCE JUGS is Twice’s signature line of jewelry. Non-toxic plastic (HDPE) derived mostly from milk jugs, is turned into modern, minimalist and elegant accessories, perfect for any special occasion, including your own very special wedding day. Amazingly, the amount of waste produced by Stefania and her husband is more the enough to run small business entirely based on plastic upcycling.

HDPE, high-density polyethylene
Plastic is extremely durable and degrades very slowly. Recycling plastic is not easy, due to the difficulties in sorting various plastic materials. Did you know that unrecycled plastic is often disposed in landfills or it accumulates in the ocean? I use a particular type of plastic—HDPE—which will make a durable, non toxic piece of jewelry. HDPE is is also used in food storage because it has very low risk of leaching BPA, a toxic component present in plastic.

ONCE NUTS is Twice’s youngest line of sustainable jewelry. Natural beads are a great alternative to plastic. Our nuts and seeds come from a trusted supplier who offers respectfully traded beads.

Tagua Nuts
Also known as vegetable ivory (palm ivory, or corozo), Tagua beads are produced from the seeds of Phytelephas (family Arecaceae), a specie of palm native to South America. Tagua earned its popularity because of its resemblance to elephant ivory. Contrarily to elephant teeth, however, vegetable ivory is a highly sustainable, cruelty-free material. The white nut is harvested, dried, sliced and dyed in beautiful colors by people in South America. Tagua was used to make buttons, before the introduction of plastic in buttons manufacturing, which put the jobs of all those people at risk and accelerated poverty in countries already battered by scarcity. By purchasing tagua nut products, you are supporting those workers and helping eliminating elephant hunting for ivory.

Acai seeds
Acai beads are produced from the fruit seeds of the açaí palm, native to Brazil and Peru. Acai is largely advertised as a dietary supplement, but while the curative properties of the berry has never been scientifically proven, the use of its seeds is a highly sustainable material that can be used to make natural jewelry. Acai beads come in many gorgeous colors.

OTHER MATERIALS
Recycled Sterling Silver
I buy our silver from a trusted supplier who offers 100% recycled silver wire. Recycled silver leaves a lower carbon footprint, if compared to silver that is freshly pulled out of the ground.

Stainless steel
Another highly sustainable metal used whenever the use of recycled silver is not an option.
