Why Girls Go Astray

whygirlsgoastray's Shop Announcement

Why Girls Go Astray started in Chicago circa 1997. I’ve always had a love for working with paper and bold graphics. The name, "Why Girls Go Astray" is of great importance to me as a feminist. I came across the phrase while researching a paper in college. The article's thesis was that educational opportunities for elite women in the 1900s would upset the balance of the contemporary society. In fact, their schooling surely would "lead women astray." I liked the idea of women rebelling against society in order to do so. Plus, I dig the word "astray," and all of its connotations and meanings.

There’s always been a certain look-and-feel to my products: bold colors, a vintage look-and-feel, and an appreciation of vintage natural illustrations (and the crazy journeys undertaken to procure them). I've always made and sold a variety of goods in the past, but right now I'm quite keen on making platters, trays, and vases!
