wotlarx's Shop Announcement

Welcome! Thanks so much for stopping by.

All the images here are archival giclée prints. Why, you ask? What the heck is a giclée print, you wonder? Well, let me tell you:

Have you ever opened up that shoebox of old photographs which has been sitting in the back of the cupboard for years, and noticed the prints have changed colour? Maybe they've also faded? That's because the colour inks used in regular film processing aren't very stable. They will change over time - usually in quite a short period of time - especially if you take the prints out of the shoebox and put them in a frame in a place where they are exposed to daylight.

There are a number of technical sorts of things about giclée prints that make them special. But I'm not really a technical person, so here are the few I understand. Firstly, that the inks used in this process are archival and fade-resistant. Secondly, the surfaces used are also archival - generally you'd use an acid-free paper or canvas, often 100% cotton rag, with a heavier weight than the paper you get your prints on from the drugstore. Aside from the inks and the surfaces, the printers themselves are incredible - they give fine resolution, beautiful contrast and colour transition - they're remarkable. These factors all combine to create an image that is stable for over 70 years - meaning when you buy a giclée print, it becomes a family heirloom - something that can be hung on the wall and enjoyed for a long time.

What else do you need to know about my prints? The quality of the images here in the shop is good - but the prints are better - they're very high quality. Also, depending on the colour calibration of your computer screen, you may notice some difference in the image you receive - but not too much! Lastly, the watermark is not part of the print. It's just there for security purposes. If you want to see watermark-free image before you purchase, just drop me a line and I'll be happy to make one available for you.

Lastly, the images you see here are just a small sample from my portfolio. You can see more of my work online.
