Welcome

Hello and welcome to the One Square Foot Studio Etsy shop. My aim in this shop is to provide quality paintings in the realist style at prices that are not sky-high. It helps to provide income for me and easier access to original art for those who don't trade million dollar pieces of history as a hobby.

Payment

TYPES OF PAYMENT
I accept money orders and PayPal for payment. Please note that items are shipped after I receive payment, and in the case of money orders, it will take a bit longer for me to receive payment and ship your purchase.

CANCELLATION
If you need to cancel a purchase, please contact me as soon as possible. I am unable to cancel purchases once the item is shipped, and I tend to ship items out quickly, provided they are dry and ready to ship.

Shipping

WILL MY PAINTING BE SAFE?
Of course! I would never send a painting out that wasn't properly packed and protected. While they are shipped in cardboard boxes, they are packed tightly in padding and wrapped in glassine or wax paper to ensure that the painted surface arrives undamaged.

HOW SOON?
I tend to ship items out as soon as they are dry and ready to go. If your painting was finished more than two weeks ago (check the listing) it will be shipped out within a couple of days of your order. Currently I ship using the United States Postal Service. Items are shipped in their flat rate boxes, and shipped at that rate.
I also always pay for a confirmation number, and will send that to you via Etsy Conversation after your purchase has shipped.
If you would like to insure the painting, please contact me in advance.

GIFTS
I will be happy to ship to a giftee address.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
I believe once the item is in a foreign country it is basically subject to that country's postal service, so if you have misgivings about your country's ability to deliver, please contact me in advance to discuss shipping options. All additional costs (custom's fees, additional shipping services, alternate postal carrier fees) will be at the buyer's expense.

Refunds and Exchanges

REFUNDS
I'm afraid that once an item is purchased, I cannot accept returns. Please be aware that while I make every effort to make the painting look as true to life in the photos as possible, I have no control over the settings of your computer monitor and therefore am unable to guarantee that the painting will be exactly the same colors you see on the screen.

DAMAGED ITEMS
If this is a concern to you, please purchase insurance for your painting. I make every effort to pack the item as securely as possible, and generally there will be no problem. However, I cannot forestall fate, and if the package is run over by a truck or crushed in machinery, I have no control over that. Complaints about damaged items must be taken up with the postal carrier. If you see the package is damaged upon arrival, document the package before opening it to help your case.

COMMISSIONS
I will gladly accept any commission you feel would be a good match for my abilities and artistic style. I will not copy other art for you, but I will follow certain parameters for a painting if you wish to provide them. Generally, the looser the parameters, the better I can perform. I will not work from your photographs, but I can use provided photos to gather my own reference material to construct a similar image. I'm afraid I cannot do portraits from photos that I have not taken, so if the subject of the portrait is not locally available, I would have to fly somewhere on your dime.

Contact me through conversation if you have an idea for a commission. I'll be happy to discuss the project in detail with you and see if we can come to a mutually acceptable arrangement.

MATERIALS
I use artist oil paints in my paintings. Generally, these are just linseed oil based paints with various pigments. However, I do use pure gum turpentine to paint, as well as odorless mineral spirits. Some of the paints may contain pigments that are harmful if ingested or inhaled, but the pigments will be locked in the oil vehicle and dry, so unless a pet chews the painting, or you sand off the paint and snort it, this is perfectly safe. As an extreme precaution, you may want to wash your hands after handling a painting. Also, for the painting's sake, you should wash your hands before handling it as well. :)

VARNISHING
Generally, oil paintings should be varnished after fully dry, which is generally one year after they have been painted. If you would like me to varnish your painting for you after this anniversary has passed, please contact me and we can arrange for you to ship the painting to me for varnishing. If you are not an artist or conservator who really knows what you are doing, please do not attempt to varnish the painting yourself. You can ruin the artwork with a poor varnishing job.

FINALLY
The artwork is created either outside or in a studio where no smoking or pets are allowed. (The house is a non-smoking household anyway.) It should arrive in excellent condition and smell like nothing other than oil paint and possibly wood and/or canvas.

THANK YOU FOR PATRONIZING ONE SQUARE FOOT STUDIO!
