Concerned about lead in children's products, specifically textiles? Read this:
http://www.cpsc.gov/BUSINFO/Poole.pdf
From page 7 of the above link:
Current Situation
•
No lead added to yarns or fabrics
by U.S. Textile Industry
•
Testing of incoming fibers and fabrics
reveal none or only trace levels
•
Even if trace amounts of lead existed, very little or none would remain on finished fabrics because:
–
Low application levels
–
Washed out during processing
----------
I am confident that all my products are perfectly safe and hopeful that the mess that is CPSIA will be repealed or significantly amended soon. Here is a link to a letter to the CPSC from other organizations with similar information:
http://www.nationaltextile.org/library/cpsc/2008_12_31.doc
And another with more recent information, including testing results showing that Coats & Clark yarns (which I use for most of my projects) contain less than 6 ppm of lead, about 1% of the current limit.
